ugh. i hate scare quotes. after instituting the consistent use of the serial comma, my next big act at the other journal was to ask our writers minimize their use of the scare quote crutch (and, also, to use italics instead of quotation marks).

I'm glad to hear you're pro-serial comma. If I see a list of stuff without one, I feel so unfulfilled. It's like trying to sneeze and then failing.
